People ask me all the time where the best places are to take photos in San Diego, and honestly — it’s hard to narrow it down. This city has so many different moods, and that’s what I love about photographing here.
Some locations feel quiet and grounding. Some feel bold and cinematic. Some just feel easy. The best spot always depends on how you want your photos to feel, not just how you want them to look.
These are some of my favorite places to photograph around San Diego — the ones I come back to over and over because they never disappoint.
Mission Trails Regional Park
This is one of my go-to locations when someone wants something natural and calm. Wide open space, soft hills, and neutral tones that photograph beautifully in every season. It feels peaceful without being boring.
I especially love Mission Trails for maternity and motherhood sessions because there’s room to breathe. Nothing feels rushed here.
Sunset Cliffs
Sunset Cliffs is dramatic in the best way. The ocean, the cliffs, the wind — everything feels alive. Golden hour here is unreal, especially when the light hits just right.
This spot is perfect if you want photos that feel emotional, strong, and a little wild.
La Jolla Coast
La Jolla always feels refined to me. The rocky coastline, the water, the light — it’s clean, elevated, and timeless. It’s one of those places that doesn’t need much styling to feel special.
If you love coastal images that feel editorial without trying too hard, this is it.
Balboa Park
Balboa Park has such a different energy. The architecture, the lines, the textures — it’s perfect for someone who wants something a little more structured and classic.
I love it for editorial-style portraits and sessions where the details really matter.
Downtown San Diego & the Bay
Downtown San Diego and the bay are where things feel more cinematic. City lights, reflections on the water, skyline views — especially at night — create images that feel strong and intentional.
This is one of my favorite areas for creative sessions when you want something modern and bold.
Quiet Fields & Hidden Trails
Some of my favorite sessions happen in places that don’t even have a name. Little trails, open fields, tucked-away spots you wouldn’t notice unless you slowed down.
These locations feel intimate and personal — perfect for maternity, motherhood, and lifestyle sessions where the focus is connection.
Choosing the right location isn’t about picking what’s popular. It’s about finding a place that feels like you. I help every client choose a spot that feels natural, comfortable, and true to their story.
If you found this while searching for San Diego photography locations, best places for photos in San Diego, or a San Diego maternity photographer, I hope this helps you imagine what your session could feel like.
Until next time,
